NBIC Biofilm Detection Workshop
The first NBIC industrial/academic cross-sectorial workshop on Biofilm Detection will be held on Monday September 24th 2018 at the De Vere Venues Colmore Gate, Birmingham.
This will be an essential session for anyone in an industrial or academic setting with an interest in biofilms and their detection and keen to meet others who share this interest.
The KTN session on biofilms in April 2018 concluded, based on attendee votes, that one of the biggest needs in the biofilm field was the effective detection and characterisation of biofilms.
We will be discussing approaches to achieve accurate quantitative and actionable biofilm detection across multiple scales and sectors (e.g. the built & natural environment, manufacturing processes and supply chain, finished products, food, human and veterinary) through sensing, diagnostic and imaging technologies.
We will explore in a workshop format the areas of problems and unmet needs in commercial contexts and the current state of scientific progress towards meeting these.
The session will start at 10:00 and finish at 16:00. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
There will be an initial plenary session led by NBIC summarising and discussing an outline scope of the needs, problem and opportunity followed by cross industry/academia group sessions.
Outputs will be:
- New connections and new collaboration opportunities
- Additions to our evolving NBIC map of the biofilm scientific/needs landscape
- Agreed priorities and opportunities for translational projects and research investment to influence funders and drive NBIC activities
